Manitoba’s police watchdog — the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) — is looking into the events that led to a man becoming unconscious during a foot chase with police.
The IIU says the Winnipeg Police Service informed them that a man had suffered a serious injury around 8:20 p.m. on Sunday.
WPS officers were patrolling along Corydon Avenue when they noticed a man yelling while leaving a store.
Officers asked the man to stop, but he reportedly continued to run.
A foot chase occurred, and one of the officers used force, at which point the man’s head hit the ground and he went unconscious.
Paramedics were called and took the man to a hospital where he is being monitored for a brain bleed.
The IIU is asking if anyone has any information regarding this incident, to contact investigators at 1-844-667-6060.
