2 teens charged for having weapons at Red River Exhibition

Winnipeg police say two teens have been charged following a weapons complaint at the Red River Exhibition on Sunday.

WPS says around 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a report that a group of men were standing in a line for a ride when they were approached by two unknown men.

A verbal dispute took place, and the duo which approached the group pulled out a machete and a gun.

Due to security measures at the entry, it is believed the weapons were tossed over a fence into the exhibition grounds and later retrieved by the duo.

It was later determined that the gun was an air pistol, and police confirmed no one was injured during the incident.

Police say the suspects were both apprehended by security, at which point WPS was contacted.

Since then, a 17-year-old has been charged with possession of a weapon and four counts of failing to comply with a release order.

A 15-year-old has also been charged with possession of a weapons and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
