Winnipeg police say an 18-year-old has been charged in connection to multiple assaults last week.
WPS says around 4:45 p.m. on May 31, officers responded to several reports that a man was “acting erratically and assaulting several residents.”
When the officers arrived at the scene, they learned that the man had kicked a glass door to a home, and allegedly attempted to assault a 71-year-old man before fleeing the area.
While fleeing, the man ran towards a 34-year-old woman, who was outside her home with her child. Police note neither the woman or her child were injured and the man reportedly continued to flee.
Officers were able to locate the suspect near Lawndale Avenue and Coniston Street.
“They (WPS officers) observed him assaulting a 36-year-old female victim through the window of her parked personal vehicle with a water bottle,” said police in a statement.
Police were able to take the man into custody after a foot chase. During a search of the man, officers were able to find and seize a knife.
Officers say intoxication is believed to be a factor in the incidents.
The 18-year-old suspect has been charged with assault with a weapon, three counts of assault, unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon, and mischief.
