Multiple buildings damaged following fire in Stonewall

One building was destroyed and two others were damaged after Friday’s fire in Stonewall, Man., about 27 kilometres north of Winnipeg.

The Town of Stonewall said in a release that an early morning fire broke out in the downtown core.

Stonewall Rockwood Fire Department (SRFD), RCMP, and EMS all responded to the scene, before calling for additional assistance from Teulon and Stony Mountain Fire Departments.

The fire was eventually extinguished and no injuries were reported.

“Our hearts go out to the business owners, property owners, and tenants affected by this tragedy,” said Mayor Sandra Smith in a statement.

“On behalf of the Town of Stonewall Council, I would like to extend our appreciation to the SRFD, our first responders, and to our neighbouring Fire Departments who joined in to help fight the blaze. We would also like to thank the Rapid Relief Response Team and other community members for ensuring that our first responders were well taken care of while on scene.”

Officials say 330 Main Street was destroyed in the blaze. Both 326 and 324 Main Street were damaged in the fire.

Fire crews say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
