Winnipeg teen charged after allegedly assaulting police officers

Winnipeg police say two women, one teen and one adult, have been charged following an alleged assault and robbery Sunday night.

Around 6 p.m., officers responded to a report of an assault involving three women outside a store along Main Street near Jarvis Avenue.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they met with a woman in her 20s who had sustained upper body injuries from being punched and kicked.

Talking to police, she told the officers during the incident, her phone was taken, and she was able to identify the other two women involved.

WPS was later able to confirm all three women were previously known to each other.

Police were able to take both women into custody after they were seen walking nearby.

Officers note, that while trying to take both women into custody, one of them — a 16-year-old — became combative and resisted arrest.

She reportedly kicked both officers and tried headbutting them, while refusing to go into the police vehicle.

WPS confirmed she was under the influence of an unknown substance at the time.

Since then, the teen has been charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer, robbery, and resisting arrest. When the teen was sober, she was released into the care of an adult on an undertaking.

Police say the other woman — a 20-year-old — who was taken into custody, has also been charged with robbery. She was also released on an undertaking.
