Taste of Asia festival in Winnipeg as Asian Heritage Month wraps up

Asian Heritage Month may be coming to an end, but the Taste of Asia festival was in full swing this weekend.

It was the second Taste of Asia festival at The Forks.

“We are celebrating the Asian Heritage Month, and just celebrating the rich heritage of the Asian community here in Winnipeg,” said Taste of Asia organizer Lourdes Federis.

The cold and rainy weather did not deter hundreds of people from coming out and taking in the many different cultures represented within the Asian diaspora.

Food was at the heart of the festival, as festival attendees tasted different samples of Asian cuisines.

“We have 30 different kinds of food vendors and variety of Asian cuisines, so you’ll have the taste of Asia,” said Taste of Asia coordinator Laarni Magboo.

There were also cultural performances – like a Korean drum session.

“This is the time we celebrate who we are, our culture, how much we miss home,” Federis said. “And this is an opportunity where we can be ourselves. Just Asians. So come here.”

The festival runs through to Sunday evening.
