Federal government to test emergency alert system Wednesday

The federal government says it will be testing the national emergency alert system Wednesday afternoon.

At 1:55 p.m., a test alert will be broadcast on several TV channels, radio stations, and mobile devices in Manitoba.

The test is to ensure the alert system works properly during a time of an actual emergency.

Tests also check the performance and reliability of the alert system, and to check for compatibility with various devices.

The province does note not all mobile devices will receive the test alert. Various factors impact the ability for some cell phone users to get the alerts, which includes device compatibility, connection to an LTE network, cell tower coverage, and device software and settings.
