Winnipeg woman allegedly rams police vehicle during dangerous chase

A Winnipeg woman was allegedly impaired during a dangerous drive across multiple neighbourhoods that saw her ram a police vehicle and jump a median, according to WPS.

The Winnipeg Police Service says a 25-year-old is facing many charges in connection with the Saturday evening incident.

Police say they received reports around 8 p.m. of a car driving erratically. By 9 p.m., officers say they spotted the vehicle in the River Heights area.

The car was “being driven dangerously, placing other motorists and the general public at risk,” according to police.

Authorities say the driver evaded a police stop at Laxdal Road and Ridgewood Avenue by accelerating and ramming the WPS vehicle before speeding away. A Winnipeg police helicopter monitored the car’s position in the Charleswood area.

Winnipeg police say the car was damaged when it jumped a raised median concrete curb near Roblin Boulevard and Greenbrier Avenue around 9:15 p.m., “rendering it inoperable.”

The driver exited the vehicle and officers placed her under arrest, police say. Neither the driver nor the two adult passengers were injured, they add.

The driver is facing various charges including assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, dangerous driving, fleeing police and impaired driving. She was released from custody.
