Man stole electronics, deliberately set fire to Red River College: Winnipeg police

A 23-year-old is facing charges after Winnipeg police say he stole thousands of dollars worth of electronic equipment from Red River College before deliberately setting fire to the premises.

The Winnipeg Police Service says the incident happened midday on Feb. 23, with staff and students present. The building was evacuated and there were no injuries, according to WPS.

Investigators say video surveillance helped identify a suspect.

Treysten Porteous was arrested Thursday near Main Street and Logan Avenue. He was charged with arson with disregard for human life; arson causing damage to property; and theft over $5,000. He was detained in custody.
