By News Staff

Winnipeg police say a man was hospitalized after he was stabbed during a fight on St. James Street early Sunday morning.

The Winnipeg Police Service says patrol officers and the tactical support team responded to St. James near Ellice Avenue shortly after midnight for the report of a fight and stabbing.

Police say a man was found with a serious lower-body injury. He was taken to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable condition.

A second man was injured but it was not life-threatening, police add.

Investigators believe a fight broke out involving a “group of individuals” and an “edged weapon” was produced.

The WPS major crimes unit is investigating.
