Manitoba RCMP officer won’t face charges after forgery allegations: IIU

Manitoba’s police watchdog — the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) — says an RCMP officer will not be charged following an investigation into an allegation of a forged document.

The IIU says in October, it was notified of an incident that happened in September 2023, surrounding an arrest.

Through an investigation, the IIU learned that two RCMP officers reportedly went to issue an endorsed warrant. At the time, one of the officers served an appearance notice on a subject and later realized she had not signed the back of the notice, which contains a certificate of service.

However, upon returning to the detachment to sign it, she reportedly noticed it had been signed by another officer.

Through an independent investigation by the civilian director, it was determined that while the officer’s actions in signing the document are concerning, there are no grounds to believe that he committed an offence.
