Winnipeg man, 32, charged in child sex abuse, pornography case

By News Staff

A Winnipeg man has been charged with child pornography and sexual assault offences that allegedly took place over the span of nearly a decade.

Winnipeg police say its internet child exploitation unit (ICE) was alerted to child sexual abuse imagery uploaded to the internet in June 2023.

In October, police say officers executed a search warrant at a home on Polson Street. Several electronic storage devices were seized as evidence, police say, which allegedly contained numerous images of child sexual abuse.

What police are calling an “extensive investigation” allegedly determined a man committed sexual offences against two identified victims, and luring offences against an unidentified victim, between Jan. 1, 2014, and Oct. 12, 2023.

Two weeks ago, on Feb. 29, police arrested Winnipeg’s Steven Peterson, 32. He was charged with possessing and accessing child pornography, sexual assault, sexual interference, indecent exposure, luring, resisting arrest and assaulting a peace officer, and more. He was detained in custody.
