Woman charged in connection to assault and robbery: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police have charged a woman in connection to an assault and robbery Sunday evening along McPhillips Street.

WPS says around 9:20 p.m., officers received a report that a woman had been assaulted and robbed.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 21-year-old woman suffering from upper body injuries sustained from the assault.

Police say she was taken to a hospital in stable condition to be treated for her injuries.

Officers were able to find and arrest a woman believed to be linked to the incident nearby.

Police say during the investigation, it was determined that “the victim and a co-worker had provided the suspect access to the washroom of their workplace shortly before closure. After closing the eating establishment, the victim and her co-worker were approached by the suspect who had already left the premises. The suspect proceeded to physically assault the victim causing her to fall to the ground. The suspect continued the assault rendering the victim unconscious. The suspect fled on foot after robbing the victim of her backpack which contained personal property.”

Since then, 24-year-old Tyesha Autumn Baptiste has been charged with robbery.
