Crews fighting fire at vacant warehouse in North Point Douglas

By News Staff

Winnipeg fire crews were still working to put out a blaze at a vacant warehouse in North Point Douglas Sunday.

The City of Winnipeg is asking people to avoid the area of Maple Street and Sutherland Avenue. In a post on X around 12:30 p.m., the city described the fire as “well involved.”

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews were first called to the vacant, multi-storey industrial building Saturday at 6:30 p.m. They found heavy smoke and flames coming from parts of the structure, and were unable to enter as a result.

There were no injuries, and the blaze is under investigation.

WFPS says the warehouse was gutted by a fire in July 2023, and then damaged again by fire last September.

“Following the July fire, the building was considered to be a complete loss due to extreme fire, smoke and water damage with large sections of the building left partially collapsed,” WFPS said in a news release. “Several other minor fires have occurred at the location since then.”
