Man charged for human trafficking in Winnipeg

Manitoba RCMP have charged one man in connection to human trafficking in Winnipeg.

Mounties say around 2 a.m. on Feb. 22, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driving on McGillivray Boulevard.

According to RCMP, the vehicle contained a driver and eight occupants — one woman and seven men, between the ages of 25 and 36 years old.

Seven of the individuals were originally from the Republic of Chad, with the eighth from the Republic of Mali.

RCMP say the 30-year-old driver, who is from Winnipeg, was arrested for human smuggling and is expected to appear in court on Feb. 23.

The other eight, were also taken into custody under the Customs Act and were taken to an Immigration Support Center in Winnipeg where they were released from RCMP custody.
