1 person dead in Winnipeg fire

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says one person is dead following an early morning fire along Vivian Avenue.

The WFPS says crews responded to a report of a fire at a multi-family residence around 4:18 a.m. Wednesday.

When crews arrived at the scene, they observed smoke coming from a unit in the residence and began to fight the fire from inside the building. By 5:01 a.m., it was fully extinguished.

Firefighters then searched the home, which is when they found a body.

The WFPS says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Crews note the fire was contained to the suite where it originated.
