Winnipeg police deal with suspicious item Sunday night

Winnipeg police say they were alerted to a suspicious item near Assiniboine Avenue and Rouge Road, Sunday night.

The WPS says when officers arrived to the area around 10:15 p.m., they began to treat the item as a possible improvised explosive device (IED).

Officers contained the area and waited for the Bomb Unit. Around 12:40 a.m. Monday, it was confirmed the item did not contain any explosive materials.

No other details about the item were provided.

Police say no injuries were reported, and an investigation is ongoing.
