Manitoba Hydro warning customers about text message scam

By News Staff

Manitoba Hydro is warning customers about a text message scam.

The Crown Corporation says fake text messages are claiming a customer’s bill is not fully paid, and threatening to cut off electricity if the balance is not received.

The text message includes a fake link.

“These messages are not from us — they are fake,” Manitoba Hydro tweeted Saturday. “Never give any personal or account information out over the phone, or by email or text. Do not click on links in the messages.

“We appreciate if you can let your loved ones and friends who may not be on social media know that these messages are fake.”

Manitoba Hydro says it never sends payment links by text message.
