Suspect fires on officers in armed-and-barricaded standoff in North End: police

By News Staff

Winnipeg police say two men were taken into custody and three officers were injured after being shot at during an hours-long armed-and-barricaded standoff in North End Saturday.

The Winnipeg Police Service says officers were called to an apartment building on College Avenue and Charles Street after 3 a.m. for a report of a woman being held against her will.

Officers say they were informed that several people with guns were believed to be inside a suite.

“Tactical Support Team members safely removed several occupants, including the female previously being held. Additional occupants, still considered armed, refused to exit the suite,” Winnipeg police said in a news release.

Winnipeg police say during the standoff, a suspect fired at police, hitting three officers who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say officers remained on the scene for several hours.

Crediting the “coordinated efforts” of officers, WPS says two men in their 40s were taken into custody.

Members of the majors crimes unit and homicide unit are investigating.
