Emergency demolition after fire at industrial building on Logan Avenue

By News Staff

An emergency demolition is planned for an industrial building that partially collapsed after a fire downtown Saturday morning.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says crews were called to the single-storey commercial building on Logan Avenue near Princess Steet around 6:50 a.m.

Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the building when crews arrived. The fire was declared under control shortly after 9 a.m.

No injuries were reported. The building sustained structural damage.

“Due to this morning’s fog, smoke from the fire is lingering, creating smoky conditions in the surrounding and downtown areas,” the City of Winnipeg wrote on X around 11:20 a.m. “Residents, particularly those with respiratory conditions, should stay indoors.”

WFPS says crews will remain on scene into the afternoon to put out hotspots during the demolition process.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
