Man facing 10 charges following stolen vehicle incident: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police say a 41-year-old man from Fairford, Man., is facing 10 charges in connection to a stolen vehicle incident.

Police say overnight Monday into Tuesday, officers noticed a stolen Ford F150 XLT Supercrew being driven along Selkirk Avenue and McPhillips Street.

With assistance from a police helicopter, officers began following the stolen vehicle.

Police say once the driver of the stolen vehicle noticed police, they began to flee, however, other officers were able to successfully use a stop stick, which partially disabled the vehicle.

The helicopter continued to monitor the vehicle and noticed it stop near Clifton Street and Ellice Avenue. At this time, the driver and an occupant fled on foot, police allege.

Police say while on the run, one of the two threw an item onto the ground, which was later recovered by police and identified as a firearm.

Both were later located by police hiding in separate yards along Clifton Street and taken into custody, they say.

The 41-year-old has been charged with possession of a prohibited firearm, flight while being pursued by police, three counts of possession of property obtained by a crime over $5,000, and more.

The passenger was released without charges.
