Ontario man facing charges following vehicle chase through Winnipeg

Winnipeg police have charged an Ontario man following a vehicle chase that occurred over the weekend.

WPS says around 10:20 p.m. on Jan. 13, officers responded to Boulder Bay near Cottonwood Road, after receiving a report of a vehicle acting erratically.

When officers arrived, they found one person sitting in a vehicle. Police say the driver immediately fled from police and collided with a parked vehicle.

Following this, officers began a pursuit, asking for assistance from Air1 and Canine Units.

Police note that shortly into the pursuit, the suspect vehicle began driving in a dangerous manner, which included driving into oncoming traffic. Due to this, Air1 maintained a visual on the vehicle and guided ground units.

During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle collided with another vehicle that was stopped at the intersection of Donald Street and Portage Avenue, before continuing to flee.

Police say multiple stop sticks were used effectively during the chase, and the vehicle finally came to rest near McMillan Avenue and Scott Street.

Finally, police were able to take the suspect into custody after a short foot chase.

Police note the pursuit lasted for about half an hour and no injuries were reported.

The driver, a 31-year-old man from Whitedog, Ont., is facing multiple charges including, flight while pursued by peace officers, resisting peace officers, dangerous operation of a conveyance, operation of a conveyance while impaired, and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
