Teen in hospital after robbery at Winnipeg Square

Winnipeg police says an 18-year-old has been charged in connection to a theft at a shopping mall Tuesday evening.

Around 7:30 p.m., on Jan. 2, officers responded to a report of a stabbing involving a group of men at the Winnipeg Square shopping mall.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a teen bleeding and being given medical attention by a security guard. The teen was taken to hospital in unstable condition, and was later upgraded to stable.

Additional officers in the area found an individual believed to be a suspect running nearby. A foot chase occurred and the man was taken into custody.

Through initial stages of the investigation, it is believed the 15-year-old was confronted and robbed by a group. He initially managed to escape, but was chased by the group and stabbed before he could get to safety.

Police say an 18-year-old has since been charged with robbery and is in custody.
