Three officers injured during weekend vehicle chase

Winnipeg police say three officers were injured following a vehicle pursuit over the weekend.

Around 12:40 a.m. on Dec. 17, officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the Spence neighbourhood.

With the assistance of AIR1, ground units were informed that the stolen vehicle was being driven dangerously, disobeying traffic signals, driving at high speed, and entering oncoming traffic.

Police say the stolen vehicle drove over a deployed stop stick and hit a police car before continuing to drive on damaged wheels.

The driver later stopped the vehicle on Herman Avenue, where they stole another vehicle.

In the newly stolen vehicle, the suspect hit three police officers who were on foot at the time, trying to arrest the suspect.

Two of the officers were taken to hospital where they were treated for injuries. The third officer also suffered injuries but did not go to hospital.

One of the officers did fire their gun but police say no one was hit.

The vehicle continued before being contained at McAdam Avenue and Aikins Street, where officers took the suspect into custody.

Police say the suspect was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The 33-year-old from Winnipeg has been charged with three counts of assaulting a peace officer, flight while pursued by a peace officer, dangerous driving, possession of property obtained by a crime, and operation of a vehicle while prohibited.
