The family of an 81-year-old man with dementia who’s been missing for several days is asking the public for help.
Earl Moberg was last seen in the River East area Tuesday between 4-6 p.m.
“So on Tuesday late afternoon, he went for a walk from the North Kildonan area,” his son Jeff told CityNews. “Even though he is 81 with dementia, he can still walk quite some distances.”
“He was an avid walker so he may have made quite a distance,” added his daughter Britt. “He would walk to McIvor Mall. He would walk around to Bunn’s Creek, the local areas here, so he may be in the area or he may be past here, in the outskirts of town.”
He is described as five-foot-seven with a medium build, short white hair and a white beard. He was last seen wearing a dark blue or green parka. Winnipeg police believe he could be wearing beige cargo pants.
Moberg, a cancer and polio survivor, taught for many years in northern Manitoba. His son Jeff feels that could be a hint about his whereabouts.
“With the way his mind was lately at times, he still thought he was working,” Jeff said. “And he did talk about going to school. So if there is any school north or west on the Winnipeg outskirts, if you could please just check around any clumps of trees or ditches or any kind of buildings that aren’t used too often.”
Winnipeg police are asking the public to check their garages, outbuildings and video surveillance for any sign of Moberg.
They say they’ve received many tips about possible sightings, which have all been investigated.
Moberg’s brother Doug says the family is trying to hold on, but as the days pass there are growing worries.
“We don’t know if he has eaten, if he has slept,” Doug said. “And he’s 81 years old — no matter how good physically he was, it’s very concerning now.
“I know he’s out there, we really want to find him.”
WPS is asking anyone with information to contact the missing persons unit at 204-986-6250.
“I really hope that you can help us to find our dad and help bring him home,” Britt said. “Thank you to the police and the cadets and the Bear Clan and all the family and community members who have reached out for support to us.”
