Manitoba police watchdog investigating assault by two off-duty WPS officers

Manitoba’s police watchdog is investigating an assault that was allegedly carried out by two off-duty officers of the Winnipeg Police Service.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU), says they were notified of an incident that occurred Thursday near Main Street and Rupertsland Avenue.

In the report, Winnipeg police say a man contacted them stating he was assaulted by two individuals at an establishment along Main Street.

WPS investigators went to the establishment and reviewed video surveillance, where they watched an altercation between the man and two off-duty police officers.

As a result of the altercation, the man suffered minor injuries.

The IIU was then notified and has taken over the investigation, and are asking if anyone may have witnessed the incident to contact investigators at 1-844-677-6060.
