Winnipeg police officer charged with impaired driving

Winnipeg police say an officer has been charged with impaired driving in connection to an incident on Dec. 8.

WPS says around 10:45 p.m. on Dec. 8, officers responded to a report of someone believed to be impaired while driving along the Henderson Highway.

Through an investigation at the scene were the incident was reported, officers were able to identify the driver in question as an off-duty officer. WPS attended the officer’s home, where they were taken into custody.

The Winnipeg Police Service Professional Standards Unit was notified of the incident and took over the investigation.

Since then, charges were authorized by Manitoba Prosecution Services.

The two-year member has been charged with two charges relating to driving while impaired by BAC.

Manitoba’s police watchdog, the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has been notified.
