Winnipeg police fatally shot man during Pembina Highway traffic stop attempt: IIU

Winnipeg police say a man has been killed following a police-involved shooting Tuesday morning.

Just around 12:40 a.m., WPS officers tried to conduct a traffic stop near Pembina Highway and Dalhousie Drive.

During the attempted stop, two suspects reportedly tried to flee the scene. During the attempt to flee, police say one of the suspects pinned an officer with their vehicle.

This resulted in one of the officers firing their gun and hitting the suspect who was driving the car.

Officers provided medical care and the driver was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries.

The other suspect, a woman, was taken into police custody.

WPS then reported the shooting to the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU), which has since taken over the investigation.

The IIU is asking if anyone has any information to contact investigators at 1-844-667-6060.
