Man charged with aggravated assault after argument escalates to stabbing: WPS

Winnipeg police say a man has been charged in connection to a stabbing earlier this week.

WPS says on Monday, officers responded to the Health Sciences Centre after receiving a report that a man had attended the hospital after being stabbed.

The 40-year-old had suffered a serious upper-body injury. He was later upgraded to stable.

Through the investigation, police linked a suspect and a related address on Pritchard Avenue, where they believe the assault took place.

Police say they learned the suspect had gone to the home to try and speak to someone who was not there at the time. A verbal confrontation then followed, police say, which escalated and led to the stabbing.

Prior to leaving the home, the suspect then reportedly damaged a vehicle.

During their investigation, police say the same suspect attended the hospital, where he was quickly taken into custody.

Since, the 27-year-old man from Winnipeg has been charged with aggravated assault, two counts of possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and mischief.

Police say the suspect and the victim were not known to each other prior to the incident.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6219, or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
