Stabbing over stolen vehicle sends 57-year-old man to hospital: WPS

Winnipeg police say a 57-year-old man underwent emergency surgery after a stabbing in Transcona Friday evening.

The Winnipeg Police Service says officers were called to Pandora Avenue West near Bond Street around 5:45 p.m.

Officers found the man suffering from a serious upper-body injury. He was taken to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable condition after surgery.

Police say they arrested a 26-year-old woman nearby and a 24-year-old man a few blocks away after a pursuit. Officers allege a knife was found on the man.

Investigators believe the incident involved a vehicle that had been reported stolen Thursday. The victim reportedly recognized the vehicle in a parking lot.

“A verbal altercation ensued between the victim and the suspects, escalating with one of the suspects producing a knife and stabbing the victim in the upper body,” WPS said in a news release.

Investigators allege the two suspects are connected to a separate robbery of a 22-year-old woman Thursday around 11:30 p.m. Police say the suspects approached the victim after she got off a bus near Talbot Avenue and Elmwood Street.

“One of the suspects produced a knife and attempted to steal property from the victim,” police allege. “The victim was physically assaulted before both suspects fled on foot but did not require medical attention.”

The suspects are facing numerous charges. They were both detained in custody.
