Winnipeg police officer charged for collision in April

A Winnipeg police officer has been charged in connection to an injury that was sustained in a collision back in April.

Manitoba’s police watchdog, the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU), says it has concluded its investigation into the events around the collision, which occurred at the intersection of Notre Dame Avenue and Donald Street on Apr. 16.

The IIU says the collision involved a police car and a civilian vehicle. Following the collision, the driver of the civilian vehicle was taken to a hospital after suffering a broken rib.

Two Winnipeg Police Service officers were also taken to a hospital for injuries and were cleared.

The IIU’s investigation found that one of the officers was to be charged for failing to use a siren contrary to Sec. 106(2) of the Highway Traffic Act and failing to drive with due regard to safety contrary to Sec. 106 (4) of the act.
