Winnipeg police say a boy was injured in a shooting in the Exchange District Monday evening.

The Winnipeg Police Service says officers were called to James Avenue and Princess Street around 7:15 p.m. on the report of multiple firearm-related incidents.

Investigators believe occupants of a white van confronted a group at Main Street and Pacific Avenue.

“After a brief verbal exchange, a male from the vehicle produced a firearm and discharged it, striking a male youth,” police allege in a news release.

Police say the boy was taken to hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable condition. The WPS did not reveal the victim’s age.

Officers located the white van abandoned on Toronto Street around 8 p.m. Police say they located and arrested two youth suspects – a girl and boy with a firearm – in that same area. Both remained in police custody and were facing charges.

The major crimes unit is investigating.
