Man dies in police custody after being found running in traffic

Winnipeg police say a man died while in custody on Sunday.

WPS says around 10:50 p.m., officers responded to the area of Broadway and Sherbrook Street, after receiving a report that a man was in distress and running into traffic.

When officers arrived, they found the man and quickly took him into custody.

The man then went into medical distress and was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he was later declared dead.

Police say the man has yet to be identified.

Both the homicide unit and Manitoba’s police watchdog, the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) have been notified.

Attending officers located the male, and he was taken into custody. The male went into medical distress, was transported to hospital in critical condition, and was later pronounced deceased.
