Driver arrested nearly one year after deadly St. Vital crash

Winnipeg police have arrested and charged a 19-year-old man in connection with a fatal crash on St. Mary’s Road last year.

The Winnipeg Police Service says a 17-year-old boy was killed in the Oct. 18, 2022, incident.

Police allege a vehicle struck a utility pole at St. Mary’s Road and Guay Avenue shortly before 9 p.m.

The driver and passenger were taken to hospital in critical condition. The passenger died of his injuries.

The WPS says speed and the manner of driving were factors in the collision.

Police say the driver, who was 18 at the time, was arrested Friday. He is facing a charge of criminal negligence causing death. He was released from custody.
