Man charged in kidnapping and sexual assault of teen

Winnipeg police say a 40-year-old man has been charged in connection to an alleged abduction and sexual assault earlier this week.

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) says on Monday night, officers responded to the Spence neighbourhood area after receiving a report of an abduction and sexual incident.

Police say a teenage girl reported that she was walking home near Portage Avenue and Sturgeon Road, on Sunday evening when she was abducted at knifepoint.

She then told police the man drove her to an undisclosed location where she was sexually assaulted repeatedly over several hours.

She was later able to escape and used a passerby’s phone to call the police.

The WPS’s Sex Crimes Unit took over the investigation and was able to identify the suspect.

The 40-year-old has since been charged with the following:

  • Sexual Assault with a Weapon x 3;
  • Sexual Assault;
  • Assault with a Weapon;
  • Possession of a Weapon;
  • Kidnapping;
  • Administer Noxious Thing with Intent to Endanger Life or Cause Harm;
  • Forcible Confinement;
  • Assault by Choking, Suffocating or Strangling;
  • Mischief Under $5000/Obstruct in Enjoyment;
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order.
