Men hospitalized after stabbing near Esplanade Riel: WPS

Winnipeg police say two men were seriously injured in a stabbing in Saint-Boniface early Saturday morning.

The Winnipeg Police Service says it happened around 2 a.m. at Provencher Boulevard and Tache Avenue – near the Esplanade Riel.

Officers say they were called to the area and found three men, including two suffering from multiple serious injuries from an alleged stabbing.

The victims were taken to hospital in unstable condition. They were later upgraded to stable.

Investigators believe the victims were walking to their vehicle when four men confronted them.

“The armed suspects attempted to rob them and proceeded to assault two of the victims with a knife, causing significant injuries. The victims fled and contacted police,” WPS said in a news release.

No arrests have been made. The WPS major crimes unit is investigating.
