One person hospitalized in Winnipeg condo fire

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Services (WFPS) says one person was sent to hospital following a condo fire along Hendon Avenue Wednesday evening.

Firefighters responded to an eight-storey apartment building just before 5 p.m., after receiving reports of a fire.

Once on scene, crews began to battle the fire from outside the building, before it was deemed safe enough to take the fight inside the suite where the fire started.

Fire officials say the majority of the damage was contained to the suite. Firefighters also ventilated smoke from the building to allow residents to re-enter safely.

WFPS notes most of the residents who were inside at the time safely exited the building, although, firefighters did need to help some people outside.

Paramedics treated five people at the scene, ultimately taking one to hospital in stable condition.

WFPS says the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
