19-year-old charged in connection to Portage Avenue stabbing

Winnipeg police say a 19-year-old has been charged in connection to a stabbing on Portage Avenue Sunday morning.

Around 6:30 a.m., WPS officers responded to the reported stabbing near Furby Street.

Police say they arrived to find a man suffering from a serious upper-body injury that required immediate first aid.

WPS says the 34-year-old victim was then taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Investigators believe the victim and another man got into a physical altercation during which the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim before leaving the scene.

The suspect is facing charges of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon.
