Winnipeg police say around 5 a.m., officers were called to a parking lot along Regent Avenue on a report of a domestic disturbance.

When officers arrived, they attempted to speak to a man and a woman, when the man “suddenly fled, then turned and confronted officers.”

The officers reportedly used a conducted energy weapon and the man was taken into custody.

While in custody, police took the man to the Health Sciences Centre, where it was reported that he had a facial fracture and a broken rib.

Due to the injuries, the Winnipeg Police Service reported the incident to the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba.
