Inmate dies following altercation at Stony Mountain Institution, 6 others injured

The Stony Mountain Institution says an inmate has died and several others were injured during an altercation Monday.

The Canadian News Wire (CNW) Group confirmed the altercation occurred in the medium security sector of the institution.

In total seven inmates were injured.

Those inmates were treated by Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) staff and transported to an outside hospital to receive treatment.

Colton Patchinose was confirmed to be the inmate who died. At the time, he was serving an indeterminate sentence for First Degree Murder, Attempted Murder – Use of a Firearm, Assault Peace Officer and Aggravated Assault.

RCMP have been notified and are investigating the incident.

The CSC is also reviewing the matter.
