Is this the climate tipping point?

By Analysis by The Big Story Podcast

In today’s Big Story Podcast, the global climate crisis has reached new heights as the world’s daily average temperature record was broken twice this week. While the fact that our planet is warming has been known for decades, the speed at which these records are being surpassed has scientists concerned. The results do not match up with any previous models, setting off alarm bells.

Catherine Abreu, Executive Director of Destination Zero, says as the climate continues to warm, governments are failing to take the level of action required, and fossil fuel companies continue to profit off unsustainable fuels.

“So it’s not surprising that we’ve got the warmest days on record and that we’re likely to see that record being beat this month,” says Abreu.

From ocean temperatures to sea ice, forest fires to heat domes–are we on the brink of another tipping point for our climate crisis? Perhaps a moment of collective realization that we can’t survive without massive change?
