Winnipeg man killed by tree while camping during storm

Manitoba RCMP say a Winnipeg man was killed at a campground in Manigotagan after a tree collapsed during a storm Monday.

Mounties in Powerview say just after midnight, a tree fell onto a tent where a man and woman were sleeping during a thunderstorm that produced strong winds.

Reports indicate nearby campers heard the woman calling for help and came to her aid.

RCMP say the tree had to be cut in order for the pair to be freed.

The 60-year-old man from Winnipeg was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was not physically injured.

Mounties say an investigation is ongoing.
