Winnipeg police officer issued ticket in January collision

Manitoba’s police watchdog says a Winnipeg police officer has been given a Provincial Offences Act ticket for careless driving in connection to a collision in January.

The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) says on January 31, RCMP responded to a collision between a WPS car and another vehicle, along the Trans-Canada Highway in Reynolds, Manitoba.

At the time it was believed one of the vehicles was heading west, when the second vehicle entered the highway from a parked position, which resulting in the collision.

Due to the collision involving the police, the IIU was notified and began investigating.

Through their investigation, a Winnipeg Police Service constable was issued a ticket for careless driving, after making an unauthorized U-turn.

The police watchdog added the case is now before the courts.
