Manitoba police watchdog investigating alleged hate incident

Manitoba’s police watchdog is investigating an alleged hate incident involving an off duty police officer on June 17.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) says they were notified of the incident by Winnipeg police and the RCMP on Tuesday.

The report indicated while a man was driving with his family, another driver behind them rolled down their window and began uttering threats and making racial comments.

Upon an initial investigation conducted by WPS, police were able to identify the vehicle’s registered owner and later identified him as an off-duty officer, at which point the IIU was notified.

The IIU is asking if anyone may have witnessed the incident to contact investigators at 1-844-667-6060.
