Body of 12-year-old who fell into Whiteshell Rapids found

The body of a 12-year-old Winnipeg boy who went into the water at Sturgeon Falls over the weekend has been found.

RCMP confirm they located and recovered the body of Usaid Habib approximately 1 a.m. Monday in the Whiteshell Provincial Park.

Officers said the boy was last seen climbing down the rocks, when he slipped into the water and almost immediately went under the rapids.

A by-stander jumped into the water to help but could not safely bring the boy to shore.

Whitemouth RCMP continue to investigate.
