Winnipeg police provide updated suspect description in April 19 assault

By News Staff

Winnipeg police have added a brief item to the description of a suspect in connection to a serious assault last month.

Police had previously released a full suspect description and a composite sketch. They now believe the suspect was wearing red slip-on sandals.

The Winnipeg Police Service says on April 19, a woman in her 40s entered her car in a parking lot on Portage Avenue near Arlington Street, when an unknown man entered the passenger side and began assaulting her.

Police say she left the vehicle and was thrown to the ground, and the assault continued.

The WPS says a passerby intervened by shouting at the suspect, who then fled.

The victim was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital.

The suspect is described as a man in his 40s or 50s with a thin build, shaggy reddish salt/pepper-coloured hair and beard, blue eyes and decayed/stained teeth. He was wearing red slip-on sandals.
