Cats dead, firefighters injured in Transcona house fire

By News Staff

Two cats died in a Transcona house fire that also injured two firefighters.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says it was called to a fire in a single-family bungalow on Macoun Place Saturday around 4:40 p.m.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the house. The blaze was declared under control shortly before 5:30 p.m.

The WFPS says occupants of the house self-evacuated. Crews unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate two cats that were found inside the home.

“Two firefighters sustained injuries at the scene. They were assessed by paramedics but did not require transport to hospital,” the WFPS said in a news release.

Winnipeg fire crews believe the fire may have been accidentally caused by “unattended cooking.”
