Winnipeg police investigate ‘suspicious’ incidents involving school children

Winnipeg police are looking for a man or men following three “suspicious” incidents involving school-aged children in River East Transcona and Louis Riel School Divisions on Thursday.

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) says around 3:45 p.m., a man approached two children, between 9 and 11 years old on the Wayoata Elementary School grounds.

While talking with the kids, the man allegedly tried to pull them towards him. Following this, the man reportedly ran away towards Wayoata Street towards Kildare Avenue East.

About an hour later, it was reported to police that a man had approached an 11-year-old at the Arthur Day Middle School in Transona.

He reportedly got out of his vehicle and attempted to bring the 11-year-old back to the car, with the promise of video games and candy.

The man allegedly grabbed the 11-year-old, but the child was able to pull away.

According to police, he ran away from the scene before officers arrived.

About 15 minutes later, staff at Victor H.L. Wyatt School reported another incident to police. The school said a man had been seen looking at children during the lunch hour.

He was confronted by staff and then left the scene.

Winnipeg police have not confirmed if the suspect is the same for all three incidents.

If anyone has any information, they are asked to contact WPS at 204-986-3296 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
