Winnipeg teen charged after random stabbings, knifepoint robberies of pizza delivery drivers

By News Staff

Winnipeg police say a 16-year-old is facing various charges in connection with the stabbings of four teenagers Friday night after a failed robbery attempt.

Police say the accused was also charged in relation to other incidents, including the stabbing and robbery of two pizza delivery drivers last month.

In a Sunday news release, the Winnipeg Police Service says it was called to the area of CF Polo Park on Portage Avenue Friday around 8:30 p.m. for the report of several youths who had been stabbed.

Officers found three 14-year-old boys and a 13-year-old boy suffering from upper- and lower-body injuries from a stabbing.

Two of the 14-year-olds were taken to hospital. The other two victims were treated and medically cleared on scene, police say.

Investigators determined the suspect attempted to rob one of the victims and proceeded to attack them after he was unsuccessful.

Police say he fled before officers arrived.

Officers say they located the suspect around 9:20 p.m. nearby – on Queen Street and Portage. Police allege a weapon was recovered.

Robberies, stabbings of pizza delivery drivers

WPS investigators believe the teenager is a suspect in a string of pizza delivery robberies and stabbings last month, and mischief to property incidents in March.

The first of the alleged incidents happened on April 25. The suspect and two others who have not been identified allegedly robbed a 28-year-old pizza delivery driver of pizza at knifepoint on Ross Avenue West near Keewatin Street.

“The victim suffered a minor upper-body injury as a result of being stabbed during the robbery and received treatment for his injury,” police said.

“All suspects fled before the police arrived.”

The following day, police allege the suspect and three others who have not been identified robbed a 23-year-old male pizza delivery driver of pizza at knifepoint on Dubuc Street near Youville Street.

The victim was not injured, and again the suspects fled before police arrived.

On April 29, police say the suspect and two others who have not been identified robbed a 23-year-old pizza delivery driver of pizza, assaulted and stabbed him in the upper body on Dubuc Street.

Police say the victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition and required surgery. His vehicle was also reportedly damaged.

The suspects fled before police arrived.

Mischief to property

Police say the suspects were all previously unknown to the victims. Investigators believe all the incidents were random.

The same 16-year-old was also charged for allegedly spray-painting the back side of two residential garages – one on Hill Street on March 10, and the other on Youville Street on March 30.

He was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, and mischief under $5,000. He was detained in custody.
