University of Manitoba removing mandatory mask mandate May 1

By CityNews Staff

Beginning May 1, mask use at the University of Manitoba will no longer be mandatory, but instead only strongly encouraged.

University president Dr. Michael Bennaroch says they will continue to supply masks and encourage students to use them in indoor spaces that don’t allow for distancing.

U of M says they have improved their HVAC systems and plan to enhance the system further in the fall.

This change aligns the university with the current public health practices used widely across the province.
